The First Indian Woman Amputee Who Fulfilled Her Dream Of Climbing All The Highest Peaks Of Respective Continents.

Today in this blog we will be reading about inspirational story of how an  Indian women despite being an amputee climbed the Highest Peaks in the World.

That Legendary woman is none other than ARUNIMA SINHA.


Born on 20 JULY 1988 in  Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.
A National Level volley ball player, with an ambition of joining CISF(Central Industrial Security Force), was pushed out of the train by some robbers inn 2011.

After getting thrown out of the train, she was unable to move a bit seeing a train coming towards her she tried her level best to get away and till that time the train ran over her legs getting her in the unconscious situation.

Soon she was brought to the nearest hospital ,examining her serious leg & pelvic injuries Doctors had to amputate her leg in order to save her life.

#Compensations she was offered after seeing the National outrage: 
  • Rs.25,000/- by Indian Sports Ministry.
  • Ajay Maken (Minister of State for Youth Affairs ans Sports) announced an additional sum of Rs,2,00,000/- as a medical relief fund accompanying with a recommendation for the job at CISF.
  • Indian Railways were ordered by High Court to pay a compensation of Rs. 5,00,000/- 
  • She was also offered a job at Indian Railways.
She was then brought to All India Institute Of Medical Science  for the further treatment, also she was offered a free prosthetic leg by a Delhi based  Indian Company.


After getting inspired by Indian Cricketer Yuvraj Singh (who fought Cancer) .

She had done a basic mountaineering course from Nehru Institute Of Mountaineering, She was encouraged by her elder brother Mr. Omprakash to climb Mount Everest.

which was then arranged by raising funds from Ramakrishna Mission, Vadodra. under the guidance of Bachendri Pal.

She first climbed the  IMJA TSE(a.k.a. Island Peak) situated in Himalayas of Eastern Nepal which has an elevation of 6189 m (20,305 ft).

Then on 21 May 2013 (10:55 am) She became the First Indian Amputee To Climb Mount Everest.



She was then honoured with a Cheque of Rs.20,00,000/- From State Government and second Cheque of Rs.5,00,000/- On behalf of Samajwadi Party.


she was awarded with Padma Shri in 2015.

 Then awarded with Tenzing Norgay Highest Mountaineering Award in India which is equivalent to Arjun Award in 2016

And, First Lady Award in 2018.

She then climbed the highest peaks of respective continents:
  • Mount Everest in Asia.
  • Kilimanjaro in Africa.
  • Elbrus in Europe.
  • Aconcagua in Argentina.
  • kosciuszko in Australia.
  • Carstensz Pyramid in Indonesia.

She has now dedicated her life for Social Causes.
She is also the brand Ambassador of 
  • Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,Uttar Pradesh 
  • BVG India Limited. 
  • General Thimayya  national academy of adventure.
